Various areas of the face and body can be treated with Juvederm injection. Among them are the face wrinkles, cheeks, ears, breasts and nose. Following is a video presentation which shows how Juvaderm is used in nose reshaping. This nose reshaping procedure is used to enlarge noses, correct flat noses and create a high bridge when the previous one is low. Take note that the patient will have had some local anesthetic applied just before the procedure: the procedure can be quite painful otherwise in a person who has not been given anesthetic. The results are usually amazing, and after a year when the Juvaderm has been absorbed into the system, the patient has the option of coming back for a repeat Juvaderm injection. The cost per procedure will range from from less than $1,000 to $1,500.

The degree of comfort that comes with the injection of Juvederm Ultra is considered to be the most important consideration when choosing the injection. This gives this preparation a very great advantage over existing fillers of other brands such as Restylane, Perlane, Surgiderm, and the like. Of course, the fact that the injection results last up to 12 months after administration gives it an added advantage of this preparation over the other, shorter-acting hyaluronic acid fillers in the market. The formulation is also designed to allow a smooth flow of the gel upon injection, a very important consideration on the part of the doctor.

One new procedure that has been proposed is breast augmentation with fillers. This has a natural advantage of being a relatively minor and safe procedure compared with the more commonly performed surgical enhancement with the insertion of prostheses. The filler is injected after prior local anesthetic administration and the breast enlarged by 1 to 2 cup sizes. Usually an initial volume 100ml is used for each breast.

Juvaderm (Juviderm, or more correctly known as Juvederm) unfortunately has not been recommended to be used as a volume filler for the breast primarily because large volumes are needed for this type of procedure, and Juvaderm comes only in 0.08ml syringes. The recommended preparation for breast augmentation is Macrolane VRF which comes in 10ml syringes, made by Q-Med, a company which also produces Restylane, another filler recommended for lip enhancement.

The product is formulated to last 12 to 18 months. The hyaluronic acid gel is gradually metabolised by the body and is ultimately completely eliminated, and is so safe that one can add on further volume if one is not satisfied with the original volume achieved, or one may have a repeat of the original injection.

The cost of this injection is about $4500.  Top-ups will cost approximately 1/2 of this amount as less filler will be needed to maintain the volume even after a year.

Juvaderm Earlobe Enhancement

Thus there is a place for earlobe enhancement, also called earlobe augmentation.  Technically this is a very simple procedure if one uses an injectable facial filler such as Juvaderm for this earlobe enhancement.  Juvaderm is recommended for this procedure as it is composed of natural hyaluronic acid that has been cross-linked to make it longer-lasting.  Only a small amount (about 0.2 to 0.3ml) needs to be injected carefully into the existing earlobe to enlarge it to a reasonable size.  This injectable filler tends to last longer in the earlobes (up to one year) than elsewhere on the face, presumably because of the fact that there is not much movement at the earlobe.

A very accurate perception.

With age and good living, women have a tendency to put on weight all over the body, including the cheeks, belly and buttocks.  Big buttocks are not the in thing these days, and in an effort to reduce fat, women will go through severe dieting and exercise regimens.  And they succeed very often in reducing the buttock size to reasonable levels.  Unfortunately, however, when the body loses its fat it loses it all over, and in places that cannot afford this fat loss.  Thus we find the once plump cheeks on the face which does give one the appearance of youth become gaunt and hollow-looking, as the fat is gone, and the woman ends up with a nice firm butt and an old haggard face.

On the other hand, to maintain the youthful plump cheeks on the face naturally, one just cannot afford to exercise and diet, with the result that a fat butt has to go with plump cheeks.

Solutions have come in the form of surgical face lifts.  With the clever use of the knife, the plastic surgeon stretches the old wrinkled skin of the face backwards behind the ears and the temple and snips off the excess, leaving behind a smooth unwrinkled skin on the cheeks to complement the well-toned buttock.

A less extreme form of facelift comes in the form of the threadlift, where a barbed thread is inserted into the scalp of the temple, and is threaded under the skin and subcutaneous layer down to the cheek bones and back in a loop to the temple.  The thread is tightened and the skin is lifted against gravity.

Both the above efforts work in theory to reduce the wrinkled facial skin of the lower face.  However while the skin is smooth, facelifts sometimes enhance the flat bony structure of the cheeks, and the effect is not a restoration of the original looks, as the fat under the skin has been lost due to dieting and exercise.

The solution is a non-surgical cheek augmentation or cheek lift.  Facial fillers such as Juvaderm or Restalyne are injected in skilled hands under the skin of the cheeks to fill up the hollowness that gives one the aged half-starved look.  The end effect is a restoration of the plump cheeks and an instant recovery of the youth that was lost due to dieting.  Juvaderm lasts up to 1 year after injection, and so for this one year one can enjoy the combination of plump youthful cheeks, a slim body and nice butt before the next cheek augmentation session!

The solution to the above problems was once only surgery. The insertion of a silastic prosthesis solved the problem of flat noses.  However with surgery there were disadvantages.  Among these were anesthetic risks, infection, bleeding and the like.

A more recent solution is the injection of facial fillers, also called non-surgical nose reshaping.  Juvaderm (more commonly called Juvederm) is one of them.  In skilled hands and under local anesthesia, the contents of less than one 0.8cc syringe was often enough to form a thin narrow high nasal bridge for the typical Asian nose, enough to make her look good.  Similarly, the Caucasian bump could be smoothed out with Juvaderm.

The modified cross-linked hyaluronic acid that is Juvaderm is able to stay 9 to 12 months before being broken down and reabsorbed into the body.  After that the patient can decide for herself whether she wants to continue having a higher nasal bridge.  Most women will, having got to like the extra attention given by men to her since this simple procedure.

The advantage of Juvaderm is that there is no surgical risk.  The risk of local infection due to unhygienic conditions is minimal in skilled hands and reputable settings.

Problem is, they do not disappear on relaxation of the lips.  The lip wrinkles are a permanent feature of her lips.

What causes these lip wrinkles?  They form because of persistent repeated chronic contraction of the muscles of the lips or orbicularis oris in an effort to form a smaller aperture.  This is done in order to afford a better grip on whatever is held between the lips - whether it is a sweet, a cigarette, a cigar or other similar object.  The skin buckles with repeated or long term contractions of this muscle, and this results in tiny cracks or folds radiating out from the lip margin.

The disadvantage of these lip wrinkles is, of course, that they make you look older and more jaded.  True, one can mask them temporarily with powder or make up, but few people ever forget how much more embarrassingly obvious the lip wrinkles become when makeup gets caked or wet.

How else, then, can one treat lip wrinkles?  One can use small doses of botox in an attempt to relax the orbicularis oris.  This occasionally works, the wrinkles lighten, and the effect can last up to 4 months.  An overdose of botox of course may cause the lips to become totally slack and unable to close properly.

The treatment of choice is the injection of Juvaderm (also called Juvederm) in very fine lines under the lip wrinkle.  Done in skilled hands the effect is instantaneous and amazing.  The lip wrinkle is filled up and disappears.  This effect lasts anywhere between 9 months to a year.  However they can come back earlier if the person persists in actions that caused the wrinkles in the first place.  Thus chronic cigarette smokers have a problem here.  So, also, apparently, do ladies of the night.

The disadvantage of using local nerve blocks was that they tended to distort the local architecture of the site for filler injection due to the volume of the local anesthetic pumped in, making it rather difficult at times to accurately gauge the degree of correction needed.  All one has to do now is to inject a bit of this pre-mix directly, wait a few seconds for the anesthetic to work, and carry on from there without having to withdraw your needle.

The advantage of this preparation is that it becomes much easier to do accurate work, and the necessity for subsequent followups to do corrective touch ups is lessened. 

The cost of these injections remains roughly the same as the ones without the local anesthetic incorporated, unless the powers that be decide to raise them because of the additional technical difficulty of producing a new preparation.  However Juvaderm remains one of the most cost-effective wrinkle fillers.

While Juvaderm is most popular for the correction of nasolabial folds, it is less well known that this cosmetic filler can also function very well as a lip injection. Lip injections are gels used to create bigger lips, which look very sexy if the lip injection is used correctly. Obviously since this is technically a more difficult task than nasolabial fold correction, one has to seek out esthetic doctors with much more experience and have a better artistic bent. After all, we are now in the world of esthetics and beauty. Many people can become good lip injection technicians, but only some can become actual artists in their work.

The juvaderm lip injection technic is utilised on persons whose lips are too thin for comfort or whose lips will look more beautiful with some extra volume. As usual, the process begins with an initial consultation with your esthetic doctor to assess your need and readiness for Juvaderm, as well as your expectations. What is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring linear polysaccharide seen in the extracellular matrix of connective tissue, synovial fluid and other tissues.  There is very low potential for allergic reactions with hyaluronic acid.  Hyaluronic acid is seen in high concentrations in synovial fluid, the dermis of the skin, the vitreous humor of the eye, and in cartilage.

The most important quality of hyaluronic acid is its hydrophilic ability - that is ability to bind water and is thus capable of maintaining adequate internal hydration, lubrication and moisture retention.

The natural half life of natural hyaluronic acid in the skin is 1 - 2 days.  This makes it not suitable for soft tissue augmentation.  However if it is chemically altered by cross linkage, it tends to persist and is more resistant to heat, mechanical stress and degradation by enzymes in the body.
